Plato’s REPUBLIC, Book 2, Part 3

Plato's Republic is arguably THE foundational text of the Western tradition in philosophy. Book Two begins by making the case that a proper understanding of Justice is perhaps the most important topic we can discuss, as it concerns how we live. To define the term, Socrates proposes that we build a city in theory, and in doing so if we can discover justice at the large scale of the city, we might also see what it is at the smaller level of individual human beings.
